Teaching My Child How To Do Spiritual Warfare

When my son Dylan was young he experienced nightmares! I don’t know how because I was very careful about what I let him watch on TV, but it happens.

I told him, “The next time you have a bad dream, start singing ‘Jesus Loves Me’ … the devil hates that song and he will leave you alone!”

His room is right next door to ours and after several months I heard him singing “Jesus Loves Me” in the middle of the night. My mothering instinct prompted me to run to him with consolation, but the Holy Spirit told me to just stay put and allow him to fight on his own, so that he learns how! It was so hard to hold myself back and go back to sleep but I did (with tears in my eyes).

The next morning I ask Dylan how he slept and he said “I had another bad dream!” I asked, “What did you do?” He said, “I sang ‘Jesus Loves Me.” I asked “Then what happened?” He said “You should have seen it Mommy, the demons just melted away!”

I gave him a big hug and told him how proud I was of him because he did “Spiritual Warfare” all by himself! I never heard him complain about another nightmare again!
