Halloween Shooting

I had just returned from dropping my teenage daughter and her best friend off at church for a Harvest Celebration on Halloween, when I remembered that the dogs needed food! So, I stopped at the Quick Break about two miles from my country home to grab some.

When I walked in the door I had a strong sense that something wasn’t right. As I walked towards the dog food I saw people on my left scrambling around and then noticed a Hispanic man lying on the floor.

So, I immediately walked over to him, asking the staff what happed? They said that he had been shot across the street and walked in! I asked them to get me a cold washcloth and I started talking to the man telling him to hang in there as I started praying.

The ambulance showed up and the medics went to work. They gave me permission to stay with him. This man had been shot three times, and a helicopter was on the way!

After he was airlifted I bought my dogfood, got in the car and realized that the shooter could have come back to finish the job and I could have been shot! ! Another thing I realized, was that what I just did was totally out of character for me! I normally can’t handle any kind of trauma and I run from it!

I was a fairly new Christian so it was one of the the first times that the Holy Spirit gave me boldness and courage to be light in the dark; and it felt really good!

The next day I called around to the hospitals in Fresno to find him because God had put it on my heart to go see him and give him a message.

When I walked into his room his eyes got really big … he had no idea who I was and why I was there! I shared with him that I prayed for God to save his life. I said “God loves you, He saved you for a reason, and He has really big plans for your life!” He didn’t speak good English but he seem to understand what I was saying because he started crying and thanked me profusely.

I never saw that man again. I don’t know if the situation changed him, but it did me! Never will I run from an emergency situation, because I’m filled with the supernatural power of Jesus Christ, who is always using me one way or another!!!
