The Power of a Listening Heart: How God Worked a Miracle

Every morning I try to spend about an hour with God, doing the Sanctuary Prayer. The last step is listening. Most of us don’t have a problem talking to God but when it comes to listening to Him we struggle!

On this particular day, I was very busy. My stepmother just had a stroke, which left her blind and paralyzed from head to toe! I prayed for her but when I was done, I was ready to go, until I heard the Holy Spirit remind me that He had something to say!

So, I reluctantly gave myself five minutes to listen. All of a sudden I started getting the craziest ideas, like asking my dad, brother and sister in law to come to the hospital to pray for mom! They were not Christians so I was sure that they would say “no.” I also got the idea to call mom’s brother, Uncle Bob, who was a Pastor - that made sense!

I was nervous about calling my family but I forced myself to do it because I was convinced that it was the Lord who was speaking to me. After all, the devil wouldn’t want us praying over mom!

So, I stepped out in faith and much to my surprise, all four family members said “yes” and met me at the hospital in her room to pray!

I asked everyone to surround her bed, like the vision I had seen in my head, then hold hands while Uncle Bob prays.

As soon as he was done, mom’s left leg went up in the air and we all stepped back in astonishment and amazement … it was a miracle! We clapped our hands and praised God with tears in our eyes!

The next day mom was able to see … she asked dad why he wore that silly hat, because it was ugly! The next day she was able to start eating on her own! For the rest of the week everything came back, one day at a time! She wasn’t 100% the same cognitively but she was able to enjoy the rest of her life!

After this event another miracle happened… my step brother and his wife gave their hearts to Jesus and started attending church!

I had to ask myself, “What would have happened, had I not spent time with the Lord that morning? What if I would have listened to my flesh and not the Spirit, by rushing out of the secret place?”

It made me think of all the times that I didn’t put God first!!! What did I miss out on? What did others miss out on?
